Department of Neurosurgery

A large team of employees from a wide range of specialist areas work closely together at the Neuro-Oncology Center at Inselspital, Bern University Hospital. Their common goal is to provide optimal medical treatment for brain tumors without losing sight of the individual.

We made a film for this year's World Brain Tumor Day on June 8, in which we would like to introduce a few people who represent the entire team. This will give you an informative insight into the many different activities and specialized steps involved in providing high-quality, patient-centered brain tumor therapy.

The Brain Tumor Center at Inselspital, Bern University Hospital, one of four neuro-oncology centers in Switzerland, treats patients with brain tumors. The center's mission is to coordinate collaboration between experts from various fields, such as neurosurgery, neurology, neuroradiology, oncology, radiation oncology, pathology, etc., across disciplinary boundaries and tailor their efforts to the needs of patients and their families.

In addition to highly specialized medical therapy, our advanced practice nurses (APNs), who specialize in tumor patients, play a key role in ensuring that those affected and their families feel well cared for throughout the course of the disease. Our two APNs have extensive experience with tumor patients and fully understand their fears and concerns.

Sending a message together: World Brain Tumor Day was started in 2000 by the German Brain Tumor Association and happens every year on June 8. This day of action, in which numerous hospitals and institutions in over 20 countries actively participate, aims to raise public awareness of the rare disease «brain tumor», but also to show solidarity with those affected and draw attention to existing services for patients. At the same time, World Brain Tumor Day is also a sign and a call to those responsible in politics and business to support medical research in this field and thus improve treatment options for brain tumor patients.
