In this year's Stage Up competition, the HORAO neuroscience research project is one of 14 projects that have advanced to the second round of selection, the elevator pitch. The jury praised the project's innovative strength and development potential.

The HORAO research project, led by Prof. Philippe Schucht, MD, which is working on an innovative visualization solution for neurosurgical tumor operations, has cleared a crucial hurdle on its way to market entry. After the second selection round of the renowned Bern competition «Stage Up,» in which the project was presented by David Hasler, MSc, and Omar Rodríguez-Núñez, PhD, it is now clear that HORAO is one of the 14 most promising teams of this year's cohort. The jury evaluates both the degree of innovation and the economic potential of the submitted concepts.

The Stage-Up program at the Entrepreneurship Center Bern helps researchers turn innovative ideas into marketable businesses. HORAO is developing a real-time imaging system for brain tumor surgery. Integrated into surgical microscopes, it is designed to help surgeons distinguish between healthy and tumorous tissue and perform procedures more safely and precisely.

«By qualifying for the top 14, we have reached an important milestone and can now benefit from the high-quality support provided by the coaches and the constructive feedback from the jury,» said the project team. Over the coming weeks, HORAO will now further refine the concept in exclusive coaching sessions and workshops in order to prepare for the big award night in May. The goal is clear: to reach the final and turn the vision of improved patient safety into reality.
