We congratulate Ralph Schär, Senior Physician and Head of Spine Surgery at the Department of Neurosurgery, Inselspital, on his new role as Neurosurgery Officer of the AO Spine Switzerland Council. Together with Christoph Albers, MD, who is Orthopedics Officer of the AO Spine, both disciplines of the AO Spine Switzerland are now represented by doctors from the Inselspital.

As Neurosurgery Officer, Ralph Schär represents the interests of spine surgeons within the AO Spine Switzerland during his three-year term of office. One of his most important tasks is to train the next generation by helping to organize continuing education events. In addition, he is responsible for fostering, deepening and further developing international cooperation in the context of clinical and scientific projects in the field of spine surgery.

AO Spine – knowledge transfer, research and education

Originally founded in 1958 as the Association for the Study of Osteosynthesis (AO for short) in Biel, AO Spine was established in 2000 as a specialization in the field of spinal surgery. Today, AO Spine is the largest global network of spine surgeons, with more than 30,000 members worldwide, and is a leader in knowledge transfer, research and education in the field of spine care.
