Following the extremely positive feedback from previous years, the «Hands-on Aneurysm Clipping Course» was held for the third time in Bern on May 27 and 28, 2025. In the state-of-the-art facilities of the Clinical Anatomy Training and Research Center at the SITEM/Inselspital, the participants, who came from all over the world, were able to train and deepen their microsurgical skills for two intensive days using realistic simulations.

Aneurysm operations are among the most demanding and complex procedures in neurosurgery. Access to the aneurysm must be precisely planned, the technique carefully selected and every movement safely performed. It is not only experience that counts here, but also constant practice – ideally under realistic conditions.

Hands-on

For this reason, our 3rd Hands-on Aneurysm Clipping Course offered over 10 hours of intensive hands-on training with clippings of various aneurysms in terms of localization, size and severity, both ruptured and unruptured.

A special highlight: working on the latest generation of patient-specific 3D simulators with blood flow. Equipped with microscopes, exoscopes, ICGs, clips and a wide range of microsurgical instruments, various strategies and techniques could be practiced under realistic conditions.

The practical program was supplemented by interactive case discussions of complex aneurysms and the presentation of proven «tricks and tips» from practice – directly from experienced surgeons.

Professional exchange

But the course was more than just training: it provided a valuable platform for professional exchange, networking with international colleagues and discussing the latest technical and technological developments in aneurysm surgery.

Organized under the leadership of Prof. David Bervini (2nd from right), the workshop offered two days of focused, hands-on training – intensive, practice-oriented, and enriched by collegial exchange with a faculty team composed of local and international leaders in the field of cerebrovascular neurosurgery from Europe, UK and North America.
