With a new video self-help group, Selbsthilfe BE is creating a specific service for relatives of brain tumor patients in the canton of Bern. When a loved one is diagnosed with a brain tumor, life changes fundamentally. In addition to medical questions, organizational challenges, concerns about the future, and emotional stress suddenly arise. Often, there is little room for the relatives' own feelings and needs.
Exchange and support from home
A new online group now enables relatives to exchange ideas with people in a similar situation in a protected environment. The aim is to support each other and reinforce the feeling that you are not alone in your situation.
The support group offers:
- Space and time for your own feelings and questions
- An exchange of experiences and helpful information
- Understanding, encouragement, and mutual support
Participation and counseling are free of charge and confidential.
Self-help as a supplement to medical care
The new group sees itself as a complement to medical care. While the focus in everyday clinical practice is on the patient, this service is deliberately aimed at relatives. Talking to people in a similar situation should provide relief and open up new perspectives.
