Georg Kägi, MD, will be Chief Physician at the Center for Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorders (ZPfB) at the Department of Neurology at Inselspital, Bern University Hospital, from June 2025.

Georg Kägi studied medicine in Zurich and Geneva. After completing his doctorate in 2000, he trained as a specialist in neurology at the Cantonal Hospital in St. Gallen and obtained his specialist title in 2008. He was promoted to senior physician in 2006, to head physician in 2013, and to deputy chief physician in 2022. Georg Kägi completed a two-year research fellowship at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in London and qualified as a professor in Bern in 2018. His research focuses on hyperkinetic movement disorders, Parkinson's disease, stereotactic treatment of movement disorders, and dysphagia in movement disorders and after stroke.

In 2008, Georg Kägi was appointed co-director of the Eastern Switzerland Center for Movement Disorders and deputy director of the Stroke Center at the Cantonal Hospital of St. Gallen. In 2013, he took over as director of the Stroke Center, and in 2022, he became sole director of the Eastern Switzerland Center for Movement Disorders. Under his leadership, the Eastern Switzerland Center for Movement Disorders has developed into a steadily growing center of clinical and academic excellence.

Georg Kägi is a pioneer in the treatment of patients with movement disorders using highly focused ultrasound (MRgFUS). He established the collaboration between the Cantonal Hospital of St. Gallen and the Zurich Children's Hospital and performed the first MRgFUS treatments in Switzerland.

In addition to his expertise in patients with movement disorders, Georg Kägi is also a broadly trained clinical neurologist with particular expertise in the treatment of cerebrovascular diseases.
