Prof. Kathleen Seidel, MD, and Prof. David Bervini, MD, will be appointed to the senior medical staff on September 1, 2025. Prof. Kathleen Seidel, MD
Senior Consultant, Intraoperative Neurophysiology
Prof. Kathleen Seidel, MD, is an internationally recognized specialist in tumor surgery and intraoperative neurophysiology. Since 2009, she has headed the Department of Intraoperative Neurophysiology at Inselspital, Bern University Hospital, which she established and where physicians from around the world regularly train.
Prof. Seidel is President of the International Society for Intraoperative Neurophysiology (ISIN) and is involved in international projects aimed at improving patient safety in high-risk surgery. In 2018, she received the Theodor Kocher Prize in recognition of her outstanding scientific achievements.
In 2019, she was appointed Privatdozentin (private lecturer) at the University of Bern and Adjunct Professor at the University of Southern Denmark, and in 2022 she became a Professor at the University of Bern.
Prof. David Bervini, MD
Senior Consultant, Vascular and Skull Base Surgery
Prof. David Bervini, MD, is a leading expert in cerebrovascular neurosurgery, specializing in brain aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations, and cerebral revascularization, such as bypass surgery of the brain.
After completing his medical training in Lausanne, he pursued research and advanced subspecialty training in Sydney, focusing on complex microsurgical treatment of cerebral vascular malformations and skull base surgery.
Prof. Bervini has initiated numerous international training courses, including the first simulation workshop for the microsurgical treatment of intracranial aneurysms in Bern. He is a sought-after speaker at national and international conferences. His commitment to research, teaching, and clinical excellence underscores his key role in advancing neurosurgery at Inselspital, Bern University Hospital.
