The randomized Phase II ReSurge (Surgery for Recurrent Glioblastoma) study, led by Prof. Dr. med. Philippe Schucht, is receiving a grant of 337,000 Swiss francs from Swiss Cancer Research for the next three years.
The study examines which treatment strategy yields better results in cases of glioblastoma recurrence: repeat tumor surgery followed by second-line therapy, or starting second-line therapy immediately without prior surgery.
Second-line therapy refers to treatment used when the tumor recurs after the initial therapy or when the original treatment is no longer effective. For glioblastoma, depending on the situation, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, or a combination of both may be considered.
Alexandra Spierer and David Hasler are coordinating the study.
